Who is it for?
This program is for parents of children with languge delays. Your child doesn’t speak, or speaks much less than you would expect based on their age. You are concerned about their language development.
What is it?
During the parent program you learn strategies that will help you help your child with their language development. You learn to adapt your own language and communication to better match your childs. In this way, your child can learn to understand the language and use the words and sentences they need.
You and your child will work together, because, as they say ‘It Takes Two to Talk’! You can also share stories and experiences with other parents during the group sessions.
This program is evidence based and is reccommended by Speech and Language therapists worldwide.
Practical Information
The program consists of:
- 7 group sessions of 2h30min with other parents (without children)
- 3 home visits of 45-60 minutes
During the group sessions, the principles and strategies of the Hanen method will be explained and practiced. This will happen using the book ‘It Takes Two to Talk’. During home visits, these use of these same strategies will be practiced and discussed using short video recordings of you and your child interacting. You can participate alone or with your partner.
Before the program begins, an initial consultation takes place at home. This is to determine whether Hanen is a suitable intervention.
The costs of the Hanen parent program It Takes Two to Talk is covered by your insurance company. You need a referral letter from a doctor specifially for the ‘Hanen Parent Program’.
